God apparently intervened in politics in the past - to free the Israelites from Egyptian slavery he sent plagues, killed all first born. He sent 40 days and 40 nights of rain to drown everyone except Noah. He stopped the sun to allow Joshua more time to kill his enemies. But these interventions have apparently stopped - did nothing about Holocaust or Bosnia or Rwanda or Sept 11.
Execution squads would be working overtime if took biblical injunctions literally. Death penalty for violating the Sabbath (Exodus 35:2), Cursing (Levit 24:13-14), or blaspheming (Lev 24:16). Children disobeying parents, or over-eating? Stone them to death at the city gates (Deut 21:18-21)
