Henry Ford started 3 auto companies. The first, in 1901, was Detroit Automobile Company, which then was reorganized into the Henry Ford Company. But Ford wanted to keep building race cars, so his backers pushed him out, and renamed company Cadillac.

Ford then got backing for a new company to build the Model A. Dodge brothers built chassis, Holley the carbs, CR Wilson built the bodies, Prudden Co provided the wheels, and Hartford Rubber the tyres.
